Truchas-Costilla project: read the public comments

You can now read what the public said in the Forest Service’s online reading room. The comments raise serious concerns for the Forest Service to weigh before it finalizes the project.

Forest Service pile burning near Deer Mesa: postponed for now

The Carson National Forest planned to burn slash piles on 74 acres northwest of the Deer Mesa neighborhood, part of the Kiowa-San Cristobal thinning project. On October 5, ignitions were postponed because conditions weren’t safe, but burning may start whenever conditions allow, and more pile burning is planned in the area this fall and winter. You may see smoke by day and glowing piles at night.
