Information on Carson National Forest Thinning Projects
The Carson National Forest has several ongoing thinning projects that will directly effect Gallina Canyon and Deer Mesa residents. There is also a larger proposal that will have an impact on all the communities from Truchas to Costilla.

Lobo FAWRA Pile Burning
The forest service has drastically thinned 350 acres directly behind Gallina Canyon and Deer Mesa resulting in 2000 to 3000 slash/burn piles. Their current plan is to set these piles on fire when conditions are acceptable!
Please read about our concerns and sign the petition to the Forest Service to replace BURNING with other safer, less hazardous and more ecological alternatives.
